As the top fundraising Big Bike team in Winnipeg, the Great-West Life Strokebusters were able to select a place in the community to receive an AED (generously donated by Philips Canada). The AED was placed on November 28, 2012 at St. Joseph the Worker School and Parish. St. Joseph the Worker is an independent catholic school (K-6), their entire school has just over 80 students. The school is also connected to the parish. The school is also a new Jump Rope For Heart school! Judy, the principal, shared that she had been advocating to her board for months now about the importance of having an AED in their school/parish. She had heard about our AED waiting list program while she was at a seminar and decided to take a chance and fill out the paperwork, it was her goal to have an AED in the school by the end of this school year. She had been having a phone call with one of her board members, trying to figure out how they could afford an AED (which costs upwards of $2,500) to make sure their staff, students and parishoners had access to this life-saving device. After she got off the phone – our message was waiting for her that their school had been chosen to receive an AED. She ran clear across the school spreading the news. They were so happy and grateful to receive the AED.

Investors Group Employee Volunteer Matching Program
On July 26, Michael Buhr, Division Director, Investors Group Financial Services Inc. and Past Chair, Provincial Board, Heart and Stroke Foundation (Manitoba) presented a cheque for $1900 to the Foundation from Investors Group.
Michael was recognized by Investors Group for his outstanding volunteer work and awarded with the opportunity to donate to his charity of choice through the Investors Group Employee Volunteer Matching Program. We are grateful to both Michael and Investors Group for this generous gift.

RBC Community Leadership Award
On November 27, 2012, the Foundation received a cheque for $1,000 from RBC thanks to Surekha Joshi, an RBC employee who recently won the RBC Community Leadership Award for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the community. Surekja chose the Foundation as her charity of choice to receive the $1,000 cheque from RBC. Thank you Surekha and thank you RBC!

In August, Canada Safeway Limited presented a generous cheque for $46,185 to the Foundation in support of our mission.

This summer, RBC presented a cheque for $1,000 to the Foundation and RBC staff volunteered over 40 hours of their time to help the Foundation with various office tasks.

Bockstael Construction is currently celebrating their 100th anniversary and as a part of their overall community commitment they are celebrating by recognizing a different charitable organization each month throughout 2012. On June 18, John Bockstael presented the Heart and Stroke Foundation with a cheque for $2000.00 in addition to their normal contribution of $2,500.00 in April. Bockstael also featured the Foundation in a 100th anniversary ad in the Winnipeg Free Press last February.

On Tuesday, July 3rd the India Association presented a cheque for $1,000 to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The monies were raised through a fundraising dinner held in support of the work of the Foundation.

Live Red Events
Each year in Manitoba, dozens of Live Red and Live Red Youth fundraising events are held in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. These events have a huge impact on furthering the Foundation's mission.
'Give a Heart' Campaign raises over $122,000!
In February, 2013, more than $122,000 was raised in Boston Pizza's 'Give a Heart' Campaign, with paper heart sales through Boston Pizza (BP), the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) and Scotiabank.
